What is a locasumer?

The term locasumer is derived from the word locavore meaning an individual who consumes food grown or produced locally.

A locasumer is defined as an individual that embraces their local culture and actively participates in their community by supporting local businesses, groups, and events. Examples of what a locasumer may enjoy include: swap meets, farmers’ markets, community clean ups, vintage stores, local art/handmade products, ride/bike shares, group events and bike rides.

The locavore has evolved into a locasumer.

Having built off the “local food movement”, locasumers have taken their local consumption and evolved it into local consumerism.

"As a locasumer we hope to enhance the economic, environmental and social health of where we live."
